'Tis the season...

Season's Greetings!

Checking in, once again, with another hugely overdue update, as has become a bit of a tradition for me at this time of year! 🙂

Highlights of 2019 included a visit to Bulgaria where I had the chance to explore some of the architectural delights of Sofia...

There were some cracking events at work too, including a trip to the Postal Museum, a Family History show at Alexandra Palace and a visit to the West Midlands to celebrate Black History Month with Royal College of Nursing members...

Something I was especially pleased with this year was going fully Open Access with the journal I edit - CILIP International Library and Information Group's Focus on International Library and Information Work - for the first time 🙌

The two issues we published in 2019 can be accessed below - completely free of charge and open to all!:

Great to see the move to OA has been so well received and we've had some fantastic contributions too again to the journal this year.

My favourite library visit of the year was to Chester's magnificent Storyhouse. I re-posted a write-up I did for Library Planet here on this blog, in the hope it will encourage folks to go and check out the Library Planet site as it’s brill! If you're interested in contributing to Library Planet yourself, you can find out about how to do so here: https://libraryplanet.net/contribute/

The header and title from a write-up of a visit to the Storyhouse in September of this year. The text reads "The Storyhouse, Chester, England - Once upon a time there lived a library..."

There's plenty to look forward to in 2020 - we're gearing up for the World Health Organisation's Year of the Nurse and Midwife and a major new exhibition on Nursing and the History of Emotions at work. IFLA is close to home in Dublin, so am keeping my fingers firmly crossed (🤞) I'll get a chance to get involved in that. In the grander scheme of things, lord alone knows what else next year will bring, frankly - it could well be something of a whirlwind so I wish everyone all the best and hopefully see you on the other side. In the meantime have a very Happy New Year!
