TOP 10

My favourite library visits
featured on this blog...

01

Warsaw University Library (Poland)

Without doubt one of the most amazing libraries I've ever visited. It really does have to be seen to be believed... and it has a massive green roof!

02

Grande Bibliothèque Montréal (Canada)

One of those rare libraries which sets out to be all things to all communities/age groups and actually achieves it! Stunning building.

03

Latvijas Nacionālā bibliotēka (Latvia)

The Latvian National Library includes 14 floors of collections and vibrant exhibitions to explore, centred around an impressive book tower.

04

Tampines National Library (Singapore)

Hugely innovative nominee for Public Library of the Year 2018 featuring a culinary studio, a rooftop running track and even book return robots!

05

Österreichische Nationalbibliothek (Austria)

The State Hall of the Austrian National Library has to be the single most beautiful library I've ever visited. It hosts some brilliant exhibitions too.

06

Dokk1 (Denmark)

Brand new publicly funded space at the docks of Aarhus. A key part of plans to convert this area of the city from industrial to knowledge space.

07

Strahov Library, Prague (Czech Republic)

Deservedly a staple of many a "most beautiful library" list, it felt like a real pilgrimage to finally see this library in person.

08

Biblioteket Kulturværftet, Helsingør (Denmark)

An outrageously cool and fun library with a maritime theme, situated in Helsingør's harbour. This place even has its own lighthouse!

09

Malmø City Library (Sweden)

This comprises an old and new library building, ingeniously brought together by a cylindrical entrance in the middle. Some fantastic furniture!

10

Pahang State Library (Malaysia)

A hugely interactive and immersive facility, complete with recording studio, 3D cinema, digital media labs and even a 'Science Lab' for kids!
